R. Kemp Massengill, M. D.

Dr. Kemp Massengill is the founder and president of Mednovus, Inc., a California-based corporation whose mission is to make MRIs safer for patients undergoing the procedure through its innovative pre-MRI screening products. He is also the co-founder and chairman of Sonique Surgical Systems, Inc.
Dr. Massengill received his BA degree from Duke University in 1963 and his M.D. degree in 1967 from Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. He was an intern at the U.S. Public Health Service, Baltimore, after which he went on to do his residency in Opthalmology at the Maryland General Hospital, Baltimore.
Dr. Massengill has personally performed over 13,000 eye surgeries while also serving as the Medical Director at Premiere Surgery Center. At West Baltimore Health Center, under the auspices of the Office of Economic Activity (OEO), he worked with disadvantaged inner city residents and also holds the rank of Lieutenant Commander with 2 years in the US Military service. He has been a member of several noted organizations – the American Board of Opthalmology, Johns Hopkins Medical and Surgical Association, American Academy of Opthalmology, Estelle Doheny (USC) Eye Foundation and Phi Beta Kappa, national society. He has been a successful entrepreneur with many commercial products to date - Surgitron Model 3000 (Ultrasonic Liposuction), Mednovus SAFESCAN® Target ScannerTM, Mednovus SAFESCAN® MRI SentinelTM GS ferromagnetic detection portals (pre-MRI screening), to name a few. He has 38 issued patents and applications related to pre-MRI ferromagnetic detection safety screening, NIH grants and many more publications.
